The interactive tutorial for the Ethereum Layer 2 project Linea focuses on its airdrop potential as a zk-rollup public chain that has not yet conducted a Token Generation Event (TGE). The article introduces the basics of Linea, including its development by ConsenSys, a TVL of approximately $500 million, an overview of on-chain protocols, and ConsenSys's contributions to the Web3 space (such as MetaMask and Infura).
- Overview of the Linea Project
Today we will interact with the Ethereum Layer 2 project Linea, which is one of the few projects that has not yet conducted a Token Generation Event (TGE). Based on previous airdrop data, public chain projects often yield significant rewards, such as ARB, StarkNet, and zkSync, with individual address airdrop amounts typically around $1,000. I have been interacting with Linea for over half a year and recently saw a notification that a token might be issued in 2025, so I will do another interaction and provide a tutorial for everyone.
Linea is a zk-rollup EVM Layer 2 chain designed and operated by ConsenSys. Checking the data on DeFiLlama, Linea currently ranks 22nd in public chain TVL, with a TVL of about $500 million. The top on-chain protocol by TVL is a lending platform (ZeroLend), which we will interact with later.
- Fundamental Analysis of Linea
As is customary, evaluating a project requires attention to its fundamentals, including financing, team, and on-chain data. Opening RootData, we can see that Linea's developer is ConsenSys, a company I greatly admire. Here are a few reasons why I appreciate ConsenSys:
Web3 educational content: ConsenSys provides Web3 introductory guidance for novice users through text, videos, and other means, lowering the industry's entry barrier.
Leading Web3 tools: They launched MetaMask (the fox wallet), which had over 100 million users in 2022, leading in Web3 user numbers.
Blockchain infrastructure:
Infura: Provides reliable blockchain node services, supporting API access for networks like Ethereum.
Truffle Suite: Offers a one-stop solution for developing, testing, and deploying smart contracts and dApps.
Diligence: Provides smart contract security audit services to ensure code safety.
Restraint and contribution: ConsenSys has contributed numerous products to the blockchain ecosystem but has never issued tokens for its products, demonstrating a high level of restraint. Its founder, Joseph Lubin, is also a co-founder of Ethereum and is my idol. (I will later release a separate issue introducing ConsenSys)
- Comparison of Linea with Other Layer 2 Chains
Below is a comparison table of popular Ethereum Layer 2 projects that I have compiled for reference:
Analysis:
Scalability solutions: Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism use OP-Stack, while zkSync, StarkNet, and Linea use zk-Rollup, indicating different technical paths.
TVL: Base leads, with Linea's TVL at $130 million, ranking high.
Financing: Linea is backed by ConsenSys, whose parent company has raised a total of $751 million, indicating strong financial strength.
Valuation and token price: Institutions value zkSync and StarkNet highly, but current token prices are decoupled from valuations. Linea has not issued tokens, and its potential remains to be explored.
On-chain data: Real-time information about Linea's TVL, trading volume, popular tokens, and protocols can be viewed through CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, and OKLink. For example, active protocols on Linea include SyncSwap and ZeroLend, with popular tokens primarily being ETH and stablecoins.
- Linea Interaction Tutorial
Let's start interacting! Visit the Linea official website to view its DAPP list, covering bridges, infrastructure, DEX, NFTs, etc. We will complete the following five interactions, all of which are common operations for public chain projects:
4.1 Cross-chain Bridging (Orbiter)
Cross-chain is the first step in interacting with public chains, transferring funds from other chains to Linea, which carries a higher weight. We will use Orbiter (which has not yet issued tokens and provides a good experience) for cross-chain.
Steps:
Visit Orbiter and connect your MetaMask wallet.
Select the source chain (e.g., zkSync) and the target chain (Linea), and it is recommended to choose ETH for cross-chain assets (Linea supports ETH for gas fees).
Input the cross-chain amount (recommended 0.01-0.1 ETH), confirm the transaction, and wait for the funds to arrive.
Check the on-chain balance on Linea to ensure the cross-chain was successful.
Tips: Choose the source chain based on wallet balance; Orbiter supports multi-chain entry into Linea.
4.2 DEX Trading and Liquidity Mining (SyncSwap)
Use SyncSwap, a user-friendly and token-less Linea DEX, for trading and liquidity mining.
Steps:
Visit SyncSwap, connect MetaMask, and switch to the Linea network.
Trading: On the Swap page, select trading pairs like ETH/USDC and execute 2-3 small transactions (each around $5-10).
Liquidity mining: On the Pool page, select the ETH/USDC pool, add liquidity (recommended $10-20), and confirm to receive LP tokens.
Check the transaction records to ensure the operations are on-chain.
Tips: Small multiple transactions can increase address activity, and liquidity mining carries higher weight.
4.3 Lending (ZeroLend)
ZeroLend is the top lending protocol on Linea by TVL, has issued tokens, and is suitable for simple interaction records.
Steps:
Visit ZeroLend, connect MetaMask, and switch to the Linea network.
On the Lend page, select ETH and deposit a small amount (recommended 0.01-0.05 ETH).
Confirm the transaction and record the deposit operation.
You can withdraw at any time later (recommended 1-2 months later).
Tips: Use DeBank to input your wallet address to check the deposit status across all protocols to avoid forgetting.
4.4 NFT Minting (AlienSwap)
Mint NFTs on AlienSwap to increase on-chain diversity.
Steps:
Visit AlienSwap, connect MetaMask, and switch to the Linea network.
In the Marketplace, choose a cheap NFT (recommended $1-5), and click Mint or Buy.
Confirm the transaction and check your wallet's NFT assets.
Tips: Choose low-priced NFTs; minting records help qualify for airdrops.
4.5 Derivatives Trading (MYX Finance) Optional
Users interested in leveraged trading can try MYX Finance, a derivatives exchange on Linea with good project potential. Refer to the recent phenomenon project Hyperliquid (established in 2022, TVL surpassing Optimism, ranked 14th).
Steps:
Visit MYX Finance, connect MetaMask, and switch to the Linea network.
Deposit a small amount of ETH (recommended 0.01-0.02 ETH) and conduct 1-2 low-leverage trades.
Confirm the transaction records and pay attention to risk management.
Tips: Derivatives trading carries higher risks; it is advisable to try small amounts only to increase interaction diversity.
- Summary and Recommendations
Today we completed five interactions with Linea: cross-chain (Orbiter), DEX trading and liquidity mining (SyncSwap), lending (ZeroLend), NFT minting (AlienSwap), and derivatives trading (MYX Finance). These operations cover the core dimensions of public chain interaction and help enhance airdrop eligibility.
Additional recommendations:
Stay active: Conduct 1-2 small transactions weekly to keep your address active.
Follow the community: Join Linea's official Discord and Twitter, participate in activities (such as the Surge program), which may offer points bonuses.
Asset management: Regularly check wallet assets using DeBank to avoid omissions.
Risk control: Focus on small interactions to avoid high-risk operations.
Backed by ConsenSys, Linea has immense technical and ecological potential, and the 2025 TGE is worth looking forward to. Feel free to ask questions in the community, and I wish everyone great airdrop rewards!
